The ASI is a validated instrument that is used in the UK, Europe and Japan. There are currently two versions of the ASI. The adult ASI will compliment current carer and adopter assessments, providing a deeper understanding of their strengths and highlighting areas for growth and development. The tool can also be used with parents where reunification is being considered, or where removal into care is a possibility.
The adolescent version of the ASI offers an assessment of high-risk young people. This includes residential care settings where it provides a practice framework that improves the capacity for placement matching, ascertaining interpersonal risk and identifying what scaffolding needs to be in place to support both the young people and the staff who work with them.
The ASI is now in use in Australia. Assessments for adults and adolescents can be booked through Secure Base Solutions or SAL Consulting. Training will commence in April 2019, run by Liz Sanders and Lisa Gardiner.
